Keble College named in AJ100 Client of the Year shortlist

Over 25 years we (MICA and Rick Mather Architects) completed five commissions for Keble College including the multi-award winning ARCO and Sloane Robinson buildings. These projects were delivered in alongside our refurbishments and extensive conservation work of the William Butterfield buildings that the College has completed over the same prolific period of development.

MICA is currently commissioned by Keble College to deliver the new H B Allen Centre, which accommodates 255 student bedrooms, a graduate centre, cafe, lecture theatre and teaching spaces around a new 21st century quad. Below the quad a subterranean extension hosts a set of research and laboratory spaces that will nurture graduate enterprise and new research space for the University of Oxford in a 2,000 sq/m light-filled lower ground floor. At 13,000sq/m the project is both one of central Oxford’s largest and most complex developments currently under construction.

MICA nominated Keble College for the AJ 100 Client of the Year to celebrate a progressive client that has consistently been a bold patron of architects and architecture throughout its history. 2017 saw the completion of a MICA project on the main campus and construction works for The H B Allen Centre including topping-out of the structure. 2017 also marked our 25th year of working with Roger Boden, Bursar at Keble College, who has been instrumental in all Keble developments and a key instigator of Keble’s construction and conservation programme.

The winner will be announced at the annual AJ100 awards dinner on Wednesday 13 June at the Tower of London.
