Oxford Sciences Enterprise, Woodstock Road

Oxford Sciences Enterprise, Woodstock Road

Oxford Sciences Enterprise is accommodated in the Woodstock Road building, which is a free-standing building on the H B Allen Centre site. It houses education spaces in the form of large seminar rooms associated support spaces for use by the college, as well as research offices, informal working space and meeting rooms for the tech incubator.

Woodstock Road is a contiguous part of the H B Allen Centre designed by MICA Architects. The development is linked to the main development below ground level, connected for servicing and access, but functioning independently.

The building has a unique form and stands apart on this important thoroughfare into Central Oxford. Our initial schemes tested planar or mesh façades, and the final design of glass fins with a digitally screen-printed onyx pattern came after a great deal of fine-tuning. This design was conceived before the Andrew Wiles Mathematics building was built but offers an interesting counterpoint to the vertical linear expression of that façade.

The building is now occupied by Oxford Science Enterprises and serves as their head office and key presence within Oxford city centre. 46 Woodstock Road is a busy hub of technology entrepreneurs, students and academics and others interacting and collaborating on a daily basis.
