Centre Point hosts London Fashion Week

MICA’s new transparent retail unit beneath Centre Point link bridge provided the backdrop for one of this season’s fashion shows during London Fashion Week.

Where once there was a congested road and traffic gyratory system, there a is now a prominent yet lightweight glazed structure which hosted Rejina Pyo’s Spring/Summer 19 collection show. MICA completed the base build of the retail units earlier this year, and since handed them over to their operators for interior fit out.

MICA’s work at Centre Point strips away the accretions that had occurred over time to reveal sculptural elements that tell the design history of the project. The raw shell of the building provided a bold contrast to the eclectic line-up of clothing on show.

"A much broader audience than the usual fashion coterie saw Rejina Pyo’s show this morning: The venue on New Oxford Street was glass walled, and by the finale, scores of morning commuters, construction workers, and other passers-by had squashed up to take a gander.

They were lucky to catch one of the most compelling emerging womenswear designers at work in London. Pyo neatly summarized her work this season as “a personal reflection on a real woman’s life,” and said that she hoped that what it reflected was the eclecticism of a real woman’s desire to dress one way one day and entirely differently the next."
