MICA designing a laboratory for Oxford Robotics Institute

MICA is appointed to create a new lab and support facilities for the collaborative groups that make up the Oxford Robotics Institute.

The client requires a large and flexible workshop & experimentation space to allow for its
diverse and developing programme of research. The design allows for the free movement of powered vehicles and robots, the recording of their activities, and responsive hands on maintenance and development. This principal space is daylit, with provision for complete black out when required, and robust and hardwearing finishes.

A meeting room and offices are adjacent, linked by an internal window to provide a key visual link between the office and experimentation area. While the new facility is located below ground, all spaces have natural light, with the office adjacent to a large sunken garden.
