MICA office trip to Wellington College in Berkshire

MICA team had the pleasure of visiting Wellington College campus in Crowthorne to tour some of the practices recently completed buildings. On a beautiful sunny day in May the staff were led by Ed Wai, Group Estates Bursar and MICA Architects Paul Mullin and Jamie Lilley who have worked with the college for over eight years.

The tour began around The Sixth Form Centre, which brings together informal and formal study spaces, seminar rooms plus ‘drop in’ tutor spaces, and a café opening out to a landscaped quad.

Then we toured around Elizabeth and Raglan Houses which provide a new 70-bed co-ed Sixth Form boarding house, a replacement Day House and an Energy Centre as part of the school’s wider estates masterplan in support of a range of academic, co-curricular, and pastoral objectives.

It was a great day out and provided education benefits for the younger architectural staff to be able to see the practices architectural details delivered and to discuss the buildings construction with the team and share lessons learned.

The day was rounded of with a few beers at the local craft beer café.

Thank you Wellington for hosting the MICA team around the amazing woodland site.
