MICA Presenting at International conference Urbanism Next March 2021

We're excited to announce that MICA will be presenting our workshop "Automation & Climate Change on the Bayou: Remaking Prototypical Urban Corridors for the Future," at the 2021 Urbanism Next Virtual Forum.

17th March 2021 09:00AM - 11:30AM (Pacific)

The workshop presentation will feature work from our Future Visioning Initiative led by Build Baton Rouge, the city’s development authority, and supported by the Louisana’s Center for Planning Excellence, Lousiana State University and Emergent Method.

The event can be summarised as follows: "For Baton Rouge’s Florida Boulevard, a new bus rapid transit line and a potential Amazon distribution center offer promise, but the corridor must first adapt to changes in mobility, land use, and climate already underway. The corridor is also a racial dividing line in the city and its revitalization must advance racial equity and integration. COVID-19 has exacerbated these disparities. The past year saw a record number of hurricanes hit Louisiana, signaling the perils of climate change. Small groups will work virtually to explore adaptive solutions for Florida Boulevard and the future of urban corridors."

MICA Director Gavin Miller will be presenting alongside Christopher Tyson, President and CEO of Build Baton Rouge, and John Snow partner of Emergent Method based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
