MICA wins redevelopment of Harpenden Public Halls

MICA has won an architectural competition to redevelop the Public Halls site in the historic town centre of Harpenden, St Albans.

Harpenden Public Halls is set on the edge of Harpenden Common, close to Harpenden town centre and the train station. It is recognised by locals as the hub of the community with a significant historical link to the town. As it stands, the current Halls buildings hosts a variety of community activities; from pre-school classes and educational programmes to dance lessons and antiques fairs.

However, with the imminent relocation of the Halls to the new Harpenden Cultural Centre in Rothamsted Park, the current site will be freed up for redevelopment and re-purposing.

MICA’s proposals will create a new statement development in the beautifully located site which will contribute to the local historic context and to the wider public realm. The redevelopment will be mixed-use, combining new homes with flexible commercial space for local use.
