MICA’s Stuart Cade speaks at Croydon 10 Conference

MICA Director Stuart Cade has spoken as part of a panel at this year’s Develop Croydon Conference.

Stuart took part in panel discussing ‘Midtown Milestones’ with Croydon Councillor and Cabinet Member responsible for Regeneration and Planning, Paul Scott. Other members of the panel were Jonathan Carter from Rolfe Judd Architects and Maxine Pringle from aLL Design.

Named ‘Croydon 10’, this year’s Develop Croydon Conference took place at the newly restored Fairfield Halls, which re-opened earlier this year following MICA’s major refurbishment and extension. The conference aimed to showcase the transformation that Croydon has achieved over the past ten years and debate the borough’s vision for growth.

The conference explored plans for continued investment and on-going regeneration throughout the next decade including opportunities created through Croydon’s £5.2bn regeneration programme, along with other discussions on industrial, housing, culture, public space, architecture and technology.

MICA has been working in Croydon since 2015 when we were commissioned by the Borough to draw up a mixed-use masterplan for the 8-hectare Fair Field site in Croydon town centre.

Since then we have delivered key elements of the masterplan including, at its centre, the major refurbishment and expansion of the celebrated Fairfield Halls. Together with this, we recently won an international design competition to design the Fair Field Landscape – a new public square adjacent to the Halls that will create a vibrant new urban centre for Croydon. Alongside, we are currently developing proposals for a new residential quarter on the site that includes vital new affordable housing and retail.
