The H B Allen Centre has been shortlisted for an Award for Design Excellence - Planning Awards 2020

The H B Allen Centre has been shortlisted for Design Excellence - Planning Awards 2020.

"Shortlisting for the Design Excellence category of the Planning Awards is fantastic news for all involved and important recognition for the design of The H B Allen Centre. The scheme provides Oxford with a unique and innovative mixed-use facility, blending living, learning and future innovation, within a 21st century reinvention of a College quad. The scheme, developed closely with Oxford’s planning team, brings to fruition a long and collaborative effort between client, architect, design team and tenant in a high quality, contemporary design in a sensitive historic setting in central Oxford that has drawn broad interest and praise since its completion."

Stuart Cade - project lead

The placemaking categories reward excellence in planning-related activities such as placemaking, urban design, economic development, housing, regeneration, legal advice, environmental consulting and property development, as well as in professional planning work

The H B Allen Centre brings together the worlds of academia and technology in the same space for the first time. This is a unique collaboration between an Oxford College and the wider world of industry, and the complimentary mixture of spaces and interests are unique to Oxford, and will no doubt be the source of innovation through unanticipated interactions.

The building surrounds a contemporary reinvention of the classic Oxford Quad with a green lawn and biodiverse planting providing respite to the students, researchers and academics, while also performing as a blue roof, mitigating the influence of extreme weather events.

This award will be given to a the project or plan that can best demonstrate how it has used or is planning to use high quality design to improve a place or create excellent prospects for improvement. The award winners will be announced in September 2020.
