Christ’s College Porter’s Lodge starts on site in Cambridge

The scaffold is up, and the vibrant red MICA sign proudly marks the start of our first project in Cambridge: the renovation of Christ’s College Porters’ Lodge.

This transformative project will replan the entrance sequence to enhance access, security, pigeonhole provision, and welfare facilities, acting as a welcoming point for students, staff, and visitors.

As part of the design, built-in window seats overlooking the First Court will offer additional waiting space, fostering a more inviting environment. The project will also restore and enhance the historic character of the Porter’s Lodge, including the retention of the structural chimney breast, the reinstatement of the mantel, the exposure of timber rafters on the ceiling, and the restoration of the chamfered masonry of the spiral staircase.

Despite a few unexpected discoveries along the way, the project remains on track and is set to be completed in December 2025.
