Unfortunately, their existing working environment, developed over several decades, has evolved into an inaccessible and disjointed collection of spaces. The proposed renovation presents an opportunity for significant improvement.
The project will replan the entrance sequence to improve access, security, pigeonhole provision and welfare facilities. Furthermore, built-in window seats overlooking the First Court will provide additional waiting space for students, staff, and visitors, while also fostering a more inviting environment.
Designs will upgrade and recapture some of the historic character of the Porter’s Lodge through the following works:
- Retain the structural chimney breast and reinstate mantel
- Expose the timber rafters on the ceiling
- Restore the chamfered masonry of the spiral staircase.
