College Green

College Green

MICA are leading the detailed design for Fairfield Halls & the College Green area; creating a new Cultural Quarter in the centre of Croydon. The Fairfield Area has the potential to be Croydon’s cultural and learning centre; an innovative and inspiring area with a lively and sustainable mix of residential, cultural, educational, commercial uses and a well‐connected and high quality public realm.

MICA and Gross Max have developed key spacial principals for defined legible urban spaces across the site. This strategy will embed the scheme in the urban fabric of Croydon and aid orientation and route-finding.

College green will be a rejuvenated civic space for the whole of Croydon. It will form an appropriate setting for the adjacent heritage assets while at the same time providing a flexible recreational space for current and future users. The landscape proposals will achieve this by developing a flexible layout with a hybrid soft-hard landscape, improved passive supervision through activated ground floor uses, improved through-routes and day and night activities that complement each other to create a destination in its own right.
