MICA shortlisted twice for RIBA Awards 2020

Lincolns Inn and Fairfield Halls have been shortlisted in the London Regional RIBA Awards 2020. Both projects marry together environmental upgrades, restoration and new extensions with a sensitive understanding of the settings they are in. The projects also both showcase how our teams collaborative approach and effective communication can tackle complex problems to deliver high quality results.

Lincoln's Inn Great Hall and Library

The Great Hall and Library project includes restoration, excavation and extension of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, and is the most significant development to the historic estate in 150 years. The work comprises heritage-led conservation and restoration with bold contemporary additions to the oldest working Library in London. The changes enhance the character and setting of the Inn and its unique buildings, providing huge improvements to quality and quantity of teaching and event spaces for the wider Inn community.

Fairfield Halls

Croydon Council’s refurbishment of Fairfield Halls is the first stage in development of a new cultural quarter in Croydon’s town centre – a major milestone in the town’s ongoing regeneration. The heritage-led design from MICA reinstates many of the original features from the original 1962 modernist building, while creating sustainable, inspiring spaces that will benefit the community for generations to come. The scheme adds two new pieces providing studio space for flexible performance and retail functions.

The above projects were two of 77 shortlisted for consideration of a RIBA London Award.

“The buildings shortlisted are of a diverse typology and demonstrate once again the breadth of the capital’s architectural output at the very highest level that the RIBA programme requires. The juries took enormous pleasure in selecting a most exemplary set of schemes."

RIBA London Director, Dian Small

“Successful projects reflect changes and innovations in architecture, but at their core display a commitment to designing and developing buildings and spaces for the improvement and enhancement of people’s lives.”

The RIBA Awards are judged by experts visiting each shortlisted project but this year the process has been put on hold due to Covid-19. The RIBA hopes to conclude the awards programme in the second half of 2020.
